Where to begin!? This is a topic of frustration for me. Not enough pet owners know the difference between a healthy pet food and an unhealthy one. Its in the ingredients people! Read them. For starters if the food your feeding your beloved pet has:
1. By-products from Chicken/Beef/ other Meats listed thats an indication of a poor quality pet food. These can be left over animal parts after all the nutritional pieces have been taken away. This can include feet, feathers, beaks ect.
2. Corn or any type of corn product, this has not nutritional value for your pet. It goes in and out the other end sort of speak.
3. Beet Pulp this is a controvisal filler that can be linked to ear infections.
4. Wheat ingriediants can cause allergies in alot of dogs as well.
These are just some ingrediants that are used to create an unhealthy pet food. Pet foods that can be purchased at the vet can also contain unhealthy ingrediants for your cat or dog. This is unfortunate because aren't we supposed to trust our vets recommendations? It seems the larger food distribution companies pay them to flogg their foods and they reap the rewards of this with benefits such as free vacations to hawaii.
So what are some healthy pet food you ask? Well its always incouraged to do your own research. Everything I have learnt about pet foods i've research and asked people myself so im just passing on the information that I found helpful for me and my pets =] Every pet is different so one food might be a great match for one pet won't always work for another. Here are some of the pet foods that i've read that are of great quality.
1. Orijen
2. Acana
3. Go!/ Now!
4. California Natural
5. Fromm
All the foods above will usually have the same basic ingriediants in common: human grade meat and bones, fruits and vegetables, high quality grains like oatmeal, natural souced perservatives like vitamin E and chicken fat, no corn, no wheat, no soy, no by-products.
Read your ingrediants, your pet will thank you for it in the long run =]
